Dear Friends:
Nick Silvestri, adopted through the World Child International Russia Program in 1996, was sadly involved in a fatal accident this February. Nick had recently celebrated his 11th birthday. He is survived by his parents, Phil and Rita, and sister, Lucy. As Nick's family and friends struggle to cope with the tragic loss, their remembrances of Nick as a warm-hearted, artistic and universally-loved young man have been expressed:
Some excerpts from his 5th grade friends and family:
Nick was a great friend; we just had fun doing anything. He was always making a joke when you needed it; like the times at school when we all would be fighting during a game of tag, and he would volunteer to be "it" himself. Nick couldn't hold a grudge, and everyone liked him.

He was one of the most artistic and creative people I knew. Nick was always drawing, and he drew so well. Nick was always generous so he gave us kids many of the drawings.
***************
Here comes Nick
Full of gleaming smiles
He helps me up and says,
"Let's play tag for awhile".
Here comes Nick
Armed with a bucket and a smile
He sits down next to me and says,
"Let's start laying down those Lego tiles".
Here comes Nick
Along with Oxana
He blazes into the park
But by the time I catch him
The sky's already dark.
Here comes Nick
Crayons in hand
With his artistic talents
Always in high demand.
Here comes Nick
In his wonder and glory
Ready to tell me
Another far-fetched story.
Here comes Nick
He taps me on the shoulder
I look at him
And we run off together.

Nick was my cousin and my friend. He knew many things. He was a GREAT drawer. The last thing I saw him draw was a picture of Santa under the Christmas tree. It was a great picture. Nick was a great friend to have. I don't think anybody would not want to have been his friend.
The thing I liked most about Nick was how friendly he was and I loved his character. Nick was never mean to anyone. Whenever I saw him he was always smiling and his eyes were beautiful. He was a great kid! I wish I could see him just one more time.

Dear Nick,
You were such an important part of our school. It's just too bad you had to leave. Now here I am sharing memories of a great person. You lived a fantastic full life.
I will always remember the joy your brought to us. You would always be smiling or laughing or telling a joke. You had a way of always being happy and nobody could ever figure out how you did it. God gave you that talent along with many others to bring down to earth and you used them, used them well.

Even as a pre-schooler Nick's paintings and artwork was INCREDIBLE! I considered Nick my art mentor. We continued our art bond at P.S. 234 and I believe he truly made me a better artist. Every Friday we drew together and he taught me; sometimes if I was lucky, he would draw one of his masterpieces just for me. I am so glad Nick inspired me to be a better artist.
